Why I became a Celebrant...

It was a natural choice...

Back in 2006 I completed my studies and was over the moon to receive my authorisation to begin working as a celebrant. I haven't looked back. Here are my thoughts on why I've been so successful...

As far back as I can remember, writing and presenting have been my strengths. I am at ease in front of a microphone and love helping others to engage with me as they remember, celebrate and grieve. I find it easy to adjust to my audience and speak articulately, so that the words feel just right and that everyone is included.

I love people and have always been fascinated by their stories and the way they live their lives.

There is a naturally compassionate overlay to everything I do. I love putting people at ease and taking them on a journey of fond recall, deep affection, reflective remembrance and comforting celebration.

Funeral and memorial ceremonies aren't the formal, stuffy and sometimes unfathomable occasions of the past. Today's ceremonies are about capturing the very essence of your loved one's character and showcasing their unique legacy in an authentic, accessible and uplifting way.

In my experience, the more personalised and REAL the ceremony is, the more comforting and engaging that moment in time can be. The ceremony itself may actually set the scene for the next steps of the grief process that follows.

Some celebrants will focus on the facts about the person, as opposed to the character of the person. My point of difference is that I weave the stories, facts, character, essence, personality, legacy and remembrance in equal quantities throughout the ceremony. I take the time to truly understand the unique specialness of each person, so the ceremony reflects these things in an engaging and holistic way.

"You're in a tough place, I see you there and I can help".
